Bio: Bret Malley grew up just outside of Yosemite National Park. This fact has shaped all aspects of his life and art practice. With a film degree from University of California Santa Cruz and an MFA in Computer Art from Syracuse University, Bret creates multi-media works that are environmentally focused and often barbed with humor. Goal: Vision for sustainability. What: Digital matte painting Who: All photographic images and painting by Bret Malley. No Stock Photography used. How: Stone by stone, branch by branch. Close to 300 layers. Where: I shot many of these images in the following locations: California (sierras), upstate NY, Peru, Portugal, and Spain. Time: Several weeks non-stop I have in-progress screen shots that I can post if anyone is interested in the making... just ask. Just finished. I do all my own photography. This is for my AP Peer pressure entry. The only image that is not completely mine is AP's stock image of the mammoth (which was required obviously). I used the silhouette and Here is a close up of the house... There are not many Elders left in the world, but maybe some day. We just expand so damn fast. I do all my own photography- but I did end up using two free textures that I liked. Overall I had never done much with lighting before so this was a good way to learn for me. Can't say exactly how many hours this took- or even how many pictures of trees I took. Quite a lot overall. Images are from all over: Peru, upstate NY, Sierra Nevada Mountains, Grand Canyon, Mono Lake, Great Basin… Just made this one. I did all the photography here and made my own fractals too. Been seeing some great clouds in NY so I got inspired to use them. The planned inversion of Non-environmental compliance. A new plan for 'Growth'. All source images are from pictures I have taken across the states, Canada, and South America. Aerial photography is also original. I do all my own photography. How it was made: Took several photographs of my fiance's face and hand (with setting up the right lighting), took several pictures of a local frog (for eyes), took water and fire shots from some years ago- and my picture of a parana from peru- add in some rust texture from some metal at my house and there ya go! The rest is just layer masking, color adjustments, curves, and a whole lot of lighting layers and drawing with a nice wacom tablet. I've decided to really learn phtoshop this summer- For my AP entry... and a learning process. I truly enjoyed the idea of somehow combining both the clouds and bridge together- which got me thinking about the concept of a world between our own land and sky, a place where gods live, a resplendent realm linked as the controlling gears for our own world, but out of sight from below. All other images, aside from the three provided, are original creations, made from both fractal design and personal photography. Her tears are now monuments to life overseeing her slow death. NO STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY USED!! All of the images here have been from my own personal photography and traveling. 175 layers. On and off for three weeks. Enjoy!! I do all my own photography. Revisiting a style I started in the beginning of summer, only now with a whole new bag of images :-). Ingredients and Recipe: fire shots, water shots, tree bark shots, rust shots, smoke shots, hand shots. Bake 1 rose for many hours and voilà! It's done! ...Or almost done, this is v2.0, cleaned up a bit :-) All image sources are original. Image locations include waterfalls from the Sierra Nevada Mountains in CA, locations in Peru, and architecture from Montréal Canada. I do all my own photography. A fun little sketch- First dabble in Sci-Fi, but would love to do a tutorial on it :-) Used Terragen to make the planets and to design the lanscape, then used photos and painted the rest in photoshop
