Now you can enter your self-published photography titles into a competition to win $25,000 to start (or finish) a project of your choosing. Of course, the prestigious award also comes with worldwide recognition, so it's perfect for anyone who wants to get their photography seen. Entires are being judged by a pretty impressive panel of editors, publishers, curators and photographers. If you have published your photography book through Blurb, then it's all pretty easy, as you don't need to send anyone a copy of your book - Blurb will make sure that the jurors get their hands on one. However, just a quick reminder: If you are posting new images up on the gallery you need to make sure that you have permission to use all of the elements within your image-editing project, or alternatively own the copyright to the image. Posting a design up that contains grabs from websites or scans of other artist's work is an infringement of copyright. If you're unsure about copyright issues on any of the images you intend to post then please feel free to drop me a line at emma.cake@imagine-publishing.co.uk and I'll give you a quick 'yay' or 'nay'. http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-14 http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-08-14 Tue, 14 Aug 2007 10:35:35 +0100 In Focus It's come to my attention that there may be a few images out there that are still 'awaiting approval'. Well, the third place went to Folashade Olagundoye, creator of the beautiful image on our Issue 30 cover. Due to educational commitments Shadé wasn't sure if she would be able to help out on the project, but confirmed last week. We'll let you know more about Shadé and the progression of the McFaul project in the next few days! http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-06 http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-07-06 Fri, 06 Jul 2007 09:59:07 +0100 In Focus Amy and Dermot You may remember last week we announced the winners of the McFaul work placement competition, Amy Read and Dermot McCusker. Amy and Dermot will be helping McFaul with their groundbreaking arts show in September and Advanced Photoshop magazine will be covering the whole process from start to finish! Here's a little bit of background info on Amy and Dermot... Dermot McCusker My website is www.dgfonline.co.uk. As for myself I graduated in November 05, currently working as an ICT Technican in a local school. When I not working I like to chill out with friends, have a few drinks, nothin better. Also good music and films is a must. I love to travel got the bug when I was 16, haven't been able to settle since, always looking for my next adventure, or even a weekend. Amy Read Well, I'm a Visual Studies Student at the Norwich School of Art and Design, and I've just finished my second year so everything is about to get serious. Thankfully we have 3 month long summers which has made way for the McFaul project. I went into my degree straight from A-Levels, which was scary at first but in the end was worth the leap of faith. I love designing, wheather its for a website or something for my desktop, I'm always on photoshop and I'm currently trying to learn a bit more about Flash. In my spare time, I look after and go for rides on my horse, Amber, and of course spend time doing absoloutely nothing on those warm sunny days. Career wise I'm always finding out about new interests, new paths that I could follow and I think that spending the summer working with McFaul will give me some real insight into the not so distant future. http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-25 http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-25 Mon, 25 Jun 2007 13:01:17 +0100 In Focus Issue 32 Issue 32 is on sale in the UK today. On Thursday 14th June, we at the Advanced Photoshop Magazine gang took a trip to meet with John McFaul and the lucky winners of our McFaul Competition, held back in issue 30, to discuss there up and coming installation show that will be held in Convent Garden later this year. After a spot of lunch and a few beverages the creative juices where well and truly flowing and John McFaul explained his ideas for the project with a passion you’d expect from the McFaul team. We can’t reveal all the details just yet, as we wouldn’t want to spoil the personality of the project, but we can assure all those eagerly waiting that this project, based upon the themes of flora and fauna, will provide a lavish, sexy and graphical visual installation producing a magical walkthrough narrative. In the words of John this show will sound out to the creative masses “that we’ve (McFaul) arrived.” And if the standards of the exhibition match that of the enthusiasm brought to the table, literally and metaphorically, by both our winning team, Amy Read and Dermot McCusker, then boy are you all in for an optical treat! This enthusiasm has spread far, attracting backing from some of the industries biggest hitters, a prime example CIA one of Britain’s biggest illustration agencies, so input from some of finest creative minds will surely evolve the show. Keep your eye out for further updates in our news pages and in this blog over for more updates on the project.... http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-18 http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-18 Mon, 18 Jun 2007 12:06:10 +0100 In Focus Image Gallery It's lovely to see so many of you already getting your galleries together. Now, bear in mind the great artistic talent we have in this country, and the huge pool of financial resources this sport-tastic burden has already lumped the country, creating a good logo to represent the games surely should be a fairly simple process with enough financial support to produce something truly spectacular. www.london2012.com Rubbish. Worst of all however, is the cheap and nasty film trailer on the site for which a 15-year olds Media Studies class could have done better. Personally I think we should have given these little ‘Pigassos’ a few nibbly treats as payment and got them to create something truly ‘cutting edge’. It would have been a damn site cheaper. www.mirror.co.uk Do you think you can do a better job of the 2012 London Olympic logo? Send your creations over to advancedpshop@imagine-publishing.co.uk and we’ll print the best three entries in our Letters page. http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-05 http://www.advancedphotoshop.co.uk/blog.php?blogdate=2007-06-05 Tue, 05 Jun 2007 15:50:01 +0100 In Focus New look Advanced Photoshop website!
